Buying a car is a move that’s rife with decisions, from choosing the right model to determining whether you want to take on the potential issues of a used car or buy something completely new to the market.

Audi vehicles have long been considered some of the most reliable on the market. A reputable brand that engineers vehicles which are built to last and use only the best mechanics and materials, Audi is renowned for making vehicles for everyday drivers.

But if there’s one thing that all car makes and models have in common, it’s mechanical and electrical errors – some of which manifest themselves in breakdowns, while others are more difficult to spot. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the structure and format of Audi error codes and how to interpret them.

What is an Error Code?

While warning lights are known to illuminate and appear on the dashboard of your vehicle, error codes are more likely to be found via a scan of the vehicle using diagnostic equipment.

If there is an issue with the way your vehicle is running, the equipment will highlight an error code, which can then be used to identify and isolate the issue.

When it comes to diagnosing an Audi, there are several codes that appear regularly – with the letter at the start of the code identifying the location of the error, while the numbers draw attention to the exact nature of the problem.

The Most Common Error Codes

The three letters that you need to be familiar with are P, B, and C.

An error code starting with P highlights a fault somewhere in the Engine (powertrain).

An error code starting with B means an error with the car body, while C indicates an issue with the Chassis, and U highlights an issue with the vehicle network.

Four numbers follow the letter, letting the diagnostics specialist know where the issue is and what it is.

For example…

  • P0302 = a misfire in cylinder 2
  • P1020 = an issue with fuel pressure
  • B0028 = right side airbag fault
  • C001A = left rear hydraulic release issue

Interpreting Audi Error Codes and Fixing Them

Warning lights are fixed to the dashboard of a vehicle to draw the driver and vehicle owner’s attention to issues that they can fix with relative ease. These include low-pressure tyres, low fuel, an issue with seatbelts and/or airbags, and more.

However, many of the backend error codes require specialist attention from a dedicated garage – ideally one that works specifically with Audi vehicles and can interpret the error code with ease and efficiency.

At Power Developments, we can turn an unknown error into an efficient repair and service on your vehicle, getting you back on the road in no time at all.
